What this is

The problem

High-entropy alloys mix five or more elements in near-equal proportion, producing properties conventional alloys cannot reach. The compositional space is enormous, and phase stability — whether the alloy stays a useful single phase or separates into brittle ones — is difficult to predict before you make it.

Where the current approach strains

Empirical rules for phase prediction work until they do not, and the failures are not well-characterised. Experimental synthesis and testing is slow enough that a wrong prediction costs weeks.

What we are exploring

Simulating composition, phase stability and defect behaviour ahead of synthesis, with the specific aim of ruling candidates out cheaply rather than predicting winners precisely.

What would have to be true

A retrospective test: given alloys whose behaviour is already documented, does the method predict the known outcome without having seen it? That is a low bar and the right first one.
